OS-Leopard Shows Its (Beta) Spots

Apple introduced the latest incarnation of software at the annual developers meeting last week - OS-X/Leopard - and as much as they poke fun at Microsoft for 'borrowing' from Apple, the reverse is also true as a number of new features in the Mac OS seem to have stemmed from Windows. I'd bore you (dear reader) with my banter on details, but Paul Thurrott does a much better job than I could in an article on his "SuperSite for Windows".

In terms of accessibility, Apple is trying to pull even with Windows but they have a long way to go. It's not that Mac OS will not be better than the native Windows acces options - in fact if Leopard does as it promises it will be better - it remains to be seen what after-market applications will be availble. Windows strength in the accessibility arena does not lie with windows but rather with companies that produce software (and hardware) designed to work in the Windows environment. I won't be impressed until Freedom Scientific releases a version of JAWS for the Mac that allows a user to make a seamless transition to an Apple machine.
