Controlling Your Computer With Your Eyes
Wouldn't it be great if you didn't need a mouse, keyboard, or even a voice to tell your computer what to do? Yes, those days are probably still pretty far away, but every day there are new developments that lead us down a wonderful road of discovery. Many of these developments aren't the result of work by researchers in the adaptive technology field, but instead in the gaming field. Sounds odd, but gamers are always trying to find an easier, better way to play, without needing so many peripherals for input.
Martin Tull, a masters student candidate at Lund University in Sweden, has developed an eye-controlled interface for a standard PC using cameras and LED lights. His preliminary work shows great promise, although right now it is limited in usefulness. But once the door is cracked open, further development becomes a given, and this idea could end up leading us down a new path for adaptable solutions.
Take a look at his video; he gives a really good explanation of what he is doing and how he is doing it. I hope this leads to further, more complex development of the process for use in the classroom.
