The XP alternative for Vista PCs
For those of us who have been dealing with every student walking through the door with a brand new laptop loaded with Windows-Vista, there is hope. Even some of my students have been complaining about Vista.
According to c-net: While Microsoft is still pushing Vista hard, the company is quietly allowing PC makers to offer a "downgrade" option to buyers that get machines with the new operating system but want to switch to Windows XP.
Unfortunately this appears to only matter to larger businesses, it is a sign that Microsoft is starting to realize that shoving Vista down our throats is not necessairly the smartest of business moves. Consumers want choices - and most of us have developed a comfort zone with XP that we wish to maintain - the same goes for my music collection but that's another matter for another day.
